Rennie Harris RHAW Rocks Out

Inspired by the music of the legendary classic rock music era from the 70’s and 80’s, Rennie Harris RHAW presents LOV AMERICAN-STYLE at Dance Place on Saturday, April 25 at 8pm and Sunday, April 26 at 7pm. This full-length hip-hop musical uses dance and dialogue to vividly tell the story of a teenage boy becoming a man. Slated as a daydreamer by his family and teachers, he is often pressured to grow up, get a job and be responsible for his actions causing him to feel like the world is against him. As he searches for love, identity and purpose, he finds himself in jail for a crime he did not commit. In an interview with Time Out NY, Harris described the work. “It’s all rock music. You know you’re watching hip-hop, but when you see hip-hop done to rock music, you know you’re watching something different.”

“Exuberant…The dancing is spectacular. Join the celebration.” – NYTheatre.com

“Thrilling…[Rennie Harris] knows how to move bodies in space, how to layer his phrases and, above all, how to make dancers look good.” – The New York Times

About Rennie Harris RHAW
Conceived in 2007, Dr. Rennie Harris originally founded RHAW as a youth organization driven by community outreach, education and mentorship. Dr. Harris’ inspiration for this youth driven company was inspired by the overwhelming interest from teens and young adults to join his internationally renowned company Rennie Harris Puremovement. Ultimately RHAW is a training company that will teach its pre-professional dancers: professionalism, production, Street Dance History, technique in the various styles of street dance, such as Campbell Locking, Popping & Boogaloo, B-boy/girl, House and hip-hop social dance. RHAW will usher in Dr. Rennie Harris’ newest and brightest street dancers to be featured in the premiere works of Rennie Harris Puremovement. Downplaying the abstract while pushing a dramatic aesthetic, RHAW will forge new paths for young hip-hop hopefuls and will present hip-hop in its “RHAW-est” forms as these inspiring young dancers take it back to basics.
