ReVision Dance Company Delves Deeper into I/DD Identities

From South Africa to Washington, DC, ReVision dance company works with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to express their raw emotions and experiences through dance. Leaving behind stereotypes, the audience joins ReVision in celebrating the strengths and abilities of individuals who live with disability. Sharing what they learned while touring in Pretoria, South Africa, the company challenges your preconceptions and demonstrates the positive healing power of dance on Friday, May 8 at 8pm at Dance Place.

Just Be will feature performances by students who have been studying with the company for years – live performances from the Mamie D. Lee School students, based in Washington, DC and a video of the adult students from The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region, Inc. in Aberdeen, MD. The performance also features documentary footage from ReVision’s trip to South Africa with a special emphasis on their work with students from the Tiqwa School, a special needs school. ReVision’s global focus connects us to I/DD individuals and their myriad thoughts and emotional landscapes – how they differ and how they resonate across cultures.
