Jody Oberfelder Projects get neurological at Dance Place with The Brain Piece: April 16 & 17

Jody Oberfelder Projects (from NYC) will be performing The Brain Piece on April 16 & 17 at Dance Place in Brookland / Edgewood, NE DC.

The Brain Piece uses dance, music, sound, set and film, objective art and subjective science to explore how the mind perceives the world.

The piece is the result of Oberfelder’s research and brainstorming sessions with noted neuroscientists Dr. Wendy Suzuki, Dr. Andre Fenton, Dr. Claudia Feld, Dr. Roozbeh Kiani, Dr. Gary Marcus and Dr. Ed Lein. This in turn led to a process with dancers, film-makers and musicians to devise a new movement-based vocabulary for describing the processes of the brain.

Oberfelder‘s collaborators include dancers Mary Madsen, Pierre Guilbault and Hannah Wendel, film co-director Eric Siegel, neuroscientist Dr. Weiji Ma, set designer Ioannis Oikanomu, composers Daniel Wohl, Sean Hagerty (New Music USA Grant recipient), Angelica Negron and pianist Vicky Chow.
