Dance Educators Training Institute 2016:

This summer join Clancyworks at The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) for an incomparable week of dancing, learning, and sharing with national and international faculty in the convenience of your own backyard. In its 10th year, The Dance Educators Training Institute (DETI), co-presented by ClancyWorks Dance Company and Baltimore County Public Schools, takes place August 1-5, 2016 from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.

All sessions are open to the public, with emphasis given to choreographers, performers, highly experienced dance educators and teaching artists. Administrators and participants from various arts and educational disciplines including college students are invited and warmly encouraged to attend this diverse collection of workshops. The week is designed to enable participants to delve deeper into their artistic pursuits and enhance their pedagogical techniques in a challenging and supportive environment.

“What sets DETI apart, says Clancy, who is artistic director of Maryland-based ClancyWorks

Dance Company, is the credo: We all learn from each other.” says Dance Teacher Magazine.

This think tank–like environment, where all the facilitators participate in the entire week, makes

for a tightly knit learning community. Suzanne Henneman, Baltimore County Public Schools

dance resource teacher, sends dance and general education teachers to attend every year. She

says the DETI inspires educators “to rejuvenate, to learn new information, to help stimulate their

brains and bodies again.”
