An Afternoon of Song and Dance at National Museum of the American Indian

The culture and traditions of the  Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin was on display Saturday afternoon at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC. Dancing, drumming and singing, while displaying colorful costumes, brought delight to the many museum-goers. Stories giving the meaning and origin of each dance was given between each performance.

Menominee drum group Str8 Across performed s a welcome song and flag and victory song. Eleven traditional dances in full regalia followed, including the Men’s Grass Dance, the Owl Dance and the Scalp Dance. Each performance was followed by stories on the meaning and origins of each dance. 

The performance was concluded with a call for audience members to dance along side the tribal dancers to a song called "an inter-tribal song for all people and all nations"
