Future, Mighty, and Mini Shock DC are ready to bring you some holiday cheer with A Hip-Hop Christmas Carol, a contemporary take on the classic Dickens novel that is sure to delight both young and old. In this version of the tale, Scrooge is a DC slumlord who is about to foreclose an apartment, a dance studio and a church when his late partner and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future take him on their rounds. The miserly Scrooge comes upon his own grave after watching Tiny Tim’s burial procession, is immediately reformed, and partakes in the Christmas festivities. Join us for this holiday extravaganza on Friday, December 19 at 8pm and Saturday, December 20 at 2pm and 8pm at Dance Place.
About Culture Shock, Washington, DC
Culture Shock, Washington DC (CSDC) is a hip-hop dance organization dedicated to innovative performance, artist development, and community enrichment, revealing the power and beauty of hip-hop to diverse communities. In 2002, Margareta Chughtai founded CSDC with herself as the Artistic Director and Brian Resurreccion as the Administrative Director. From here, CSDC grew with the addition of many new dancers, captains and staff members. CSDC produced the first East Coast Dance Competition (now known as ECDC) in 2004. Recent free performances at the Carter Barron Amphitheater have drawn crowds upwards of 1,500 people. The company now has 135 dancers in five troupes based on age and experience. The main company, Culture Shock, performs around the DC, Maryland, and Virginia areas. National and international dance instructors who introduce new and exciting choreography at our weekly company classes train our dancers in hip-hop and American street dance. In a world where style and music are constantly changing, Culture Shock choreography remains innovative and unique, resulting in a troupe of individuals who express hip-hop in a style all their own. Culture Shock dancers take their passion one step further by sharing their talents with the surrounding community.
