Valentine’s Day Concert with Music by One of the Romantic Era’s Most Greatest Composers!

The National Chamber Ensemble, celebrates Valentine’s Day on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 7:30 pm at Artisphere’s Spectrum Theater. Praised by the Washington Post for being “Delightful…abundant in jovial with,” National Chamber Ensemble’s society of internationally acclaimed musicians are is redefining the meaning of “chamber music.”
Celebrate the Day for Romance with ” The Thrill of Tchaikovsky”, a concert with music by one of the most romantic composers of all time. Peter Iliych Tchaikovsky, the leading Russian composer of the late 19th century thrilled audiences with music of great romanticism and melodic inspiration such as his wonderful chamber music, symphonic music and the greatest ballets of all time such as Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and Nutcracker. NCE will present some of his favorite chamber works: String Quartet No.1, Romeo and Juliet Fantasy/Overture (arranged for string quartet) and the exquisite Serenade for Strings on this special day.
The audience is invited to reception following performance. A perfect occasion to bring your Valentine.
Violinist and Artistic Director Leo ( Leonid) Sushansky is in his eight season with the National Chamber Ensemble and has been acclaimed widely for his, “Gorgeous tone… Compelling musical personality…Passionate intensity,” The Washington Post. He has appeared with many orchestras, as a recitalist and chamber musician in esteemed concert halls worldwide and has been featured on numerous radio and television programs. The orchestras he has performed as soloist with include: the Windsor Symphony, Arlington Symphony, Municipal Orchestra of New York, Bergen Philharmonic, Queens Park Symphonia, New York Philharmonic, Romanian State Philharmonic, Fairfax Symphony, Philharmonia Virtuosi of New York, Richmond Philharmonic, McLean Orchestra, Britt Festival Orchestra, Aspen Chamber Orchestra, Staten Island Symphony, the Landon Symphonette, New Hampshire Symphony, Maryland Symphony, Washington Pro-Musica among others. His most recent Washington DC appearance was on Jan 11,2015 in recital at the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Steinway Series..
Violinist Najin Kim is Associate Principal Violin in the Washington National Opera/ Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra. She was born in Seoul South Korea began her violin studies at the age of 4, and soon was recognized as a child with an exceptional talent by winning the first prize at Korean Daily Newspaper Competition at the age of 7. In 1993, Ms. Kim moved to New York to attend The Juilliard School, where she earned Pre-College degree and Bachelor’s degree in violin performance in the studios of Dorothy Delay, Wonbin Yim, and Hyo Kang. Ms. Kim went on to earn her Master’s degree from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Ms. Kim participated in various summer music festivals, including Aspen Music Festival, Spoleto USA Festival, and Santa Barbara Music Academy of the West. An active chamber musician, Ms. Kim won Young Chamber Musicians’ competition at the Lincoln Center in New York City.
Cellist Sean Neidlinger enjoys an active career as a recitalist, chamber musician, and teacher. After receiving a Bachelor of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music under the tutelage of Richard Aaron, he pursued further studies at New England Conservatory with Paul Katz. Described as “fiery” and “impassioned” by the Washington Post, Sean’s playing has received top prizes at several orchestra concerto competitions, including the Fairfax, Arlington, and Alexandria Symphonies. He has been featured as a soloist and chamber musician at the Korean, German, French, and Austrian embassies, the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage and Terrace Theatre, the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic and the Friday Morning Music Club orchestras. He also has performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Eclipse Chamber Orchestra, and has served as principal cellist of the Winchester and McLean Orchestras.
Violist Uri Wassertzug is a member of the Washington National Opera/ Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra in Washington DC in 1998, and he performs frequently as Guest Principal Violist with the National Philharmonic. He was a member of the Sacramento Symphony for its final six years, and has performed with many other symphonic and opera orchestras in the United States. He has coached violists and violinists of various youth orchestras, including the DC Youth Orchestra and the California Youth Symphony. Mr. Wassertzug earned a Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance from the University of Maryland in College Park, and a Master of Music in Chamber Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
