Global Art in July at Gallery Underground

Focus Gallery: Colors of the World—Adrienne Kralick Solo Show

Dates: June 29 – July 31, 2015

Opening Reception: Friday, July 10, 5-8pm

Arlington, VA – In July, the Focus Gallery features “Colors of the World,” a very colorful painting exhibition in oils of contemporary images from across the globe by artist and philanthropist Adrienne Kralick.

The artist notes: “The show’s title refers to the song “Colors of the Wind” which often comes to mind when I paint. The song and my paintings both share cultivating empathy for others who live in different worlds.”

On the topic of her preferred subject matter, Kralick says: “When traveling, I am fascinated by the unique colors and sense of energy that permeate a region. Each color scheme is unique to the place I am painting: Ghana, Kenya, India, Egypt, France and D.C. When I visit a new country, I am not drawn to paint the monuments or tourist attractions, but rather the snapshots of tender beauty that can be found in moments of everyday life—moments that stir universal emotions. I like painting reality rather than posed or contrived images. I often ask my local guide or friend to take me off the beaten path, where tourists rarely go so that I can see how people really live.”

Proceeds from each painting sold will go to the charity, Painting Brighter Futures (www.PaintingBrighterfutures.com) which Adrienne started in 2012 after visiting Ghana for the first time. It began with one project in mind: to help raise money to build a school for local children who could not afford the minimal fees needed to attend public school (around $30 a year). As needs arose, word spread, friends joined the cause and we found more ways to help.
