Middle Eastern Roots of Flamenco Explored by Furia Flamenca

Join Dance Place on Saturday, August 1 at 8pm and Sunday, August 2 at 7pm for an evening of exciting, cultural performance.  The skill and passion of flamenco choreographer Estela Velez de Paredez unites with the music of composer/musician Guillermo-Juan Christie and the special guest appearance of Middle Eastern dancer Yillah Natalie in an expanded version of their sold out show at INTERSECTIONS 2014, Recordando La Alhambra. Discover how the Arab-Islamic world fused with the culture of Granada in Spain to help give birth to the gypsy dance form of flamenco. A string and percussion ensemble, including oud, cello, violin, flamenco percussion and Middle Eastern percussion combines with original flamenco choreographies to showcase the Northern African and Middle Eastern roots of flamenco. You won’t want to miss this lively performance.
