MOAPIA Launches “Chinatown Park Start FRESH!” Series

In partnership with the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), the Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs (MOAPIA) is launching Chinatown Park Start FRESH!, a series of fun and healthy outdoor activities held in the Chinatown Park located on the corner of Massachusetts Ave and I St NW between 5th and 6th St NW.

Chinatown Park Start FRESH! aims to encourage District residents to pursue more active and healthier lifestyle choices as well as to build neighborhood connections within the Chinatown community. The series offers free fitness classes such as Yoga, Tai Chi and Tae Kwon Do and features community events like a block party and outdoor film screenings.

“Chinatown Park may be small but it’s a beautiful park. This series is a great opportunity for residents of all backgrounds to get together to build connections and have fun.” said David Do, MOAPIA Director.

“DPR is very pleased to team with MOAPIA to offer outstanding fitness resources to the Chinatown community,” said Keith A. Anderson, DPR Acting Director.

Upcoming events include: DC Seniors Move! (morning Tai Chi class, every Tuesday at 8 AM), Yoga in the City (adult yoga class, Monday, July 13 and July 27 at 7 PM) and Defend Back with Tae Kwon Do (adult self-defense class, Monday, July 20 at 7 PM). Additional events will be announced in the near future on MOAPIA’s website at apia.dc.gov.

All events are free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Kangeun “Kelly” Jeong at  kangeun.jeong@dc.gov or 202-727-3120.
