Youth Speak!
Created by the Paso Nuevo and SYEP Youth participants of GALA’s summer arts program, Slaves to Society speaks to the issues our youth face today and examines how society impacts their views on relationships, technology, stereotypes and success. Directed by Alina Collins Maldonado, the presentation will be in English with some Spanish on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 8 pm at the GALA Theatre, 3333 14th Street, NW. Free admission!
The opening act features members of the Power of the Pen Hip Hop Theater Ensemble from FRESHH Inc.
Presented in collaboration with the Washington Theatre Lab School of the Dramatic Arts, this program is made possible with generous support from the Mayor’s Office on Latino Affairs, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, The DC Trust, the Inter-American Development Bank, Wells Fargo and Bank of America.

Creada por los jóvenes participantes del programa de artes de verano de GALA “Paso Nuevo” y el programa SYEP Youth, la obra “Esclavos a la Sociedad” muestra los problemas que nuestra juventud enfrenta hoy en día y evalúa cómo la sociedad impacta su perspectiva sobre las relaciones, la tecnología, los estereotipos y el éxito. Dirigida por Alina Collins Maldonado, la presentación es en inglés con algunas partes en español, el viernes 7 de agosto de 2015 a las 8 pm, en el Teatro GALA ubicado en el 3333 14th Street, NW. ¡Entrada gratis!

A World Premiere Adaptation Kicks Off Our New Season
GALA launches its 40th anniversary season with the world premiere of a new adaptation of Yerma by Fernando J. López, a tragic poem originally written by the Spanish playwright Federico García Lorca. Artists from Spain, Mexico, Chile and the U.S. come together in this stunning play directed by José Luis Arellano García that is performed in Spanish with English surtitles. Performances are September 10 through October 4, 2015 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, and on Sundays at 2 pm. Purchase tickets now
