German-American Day Celebration at the German American Friendship Garden

AGAS, the Association of German-American Societies of Greater Washington, DC, invites you to participate in a ceremony in celebration of German-American Day on Monday, October 6, at the German American Friendship Garden on the grounds of the Washington Monument on the National Mall.

Proclamations issued by the President of the United States, the Governors of Maryland and Virginia, and the Mayor of Washington, DC, will be read. These documents will be presented to a representative of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The German and US national anthems will be sung by the participants in the ceremony.

The German-American Day celebration in Washington, DC takes place in the German American Friendship Garden, where a major restoration was completed in spring 2014. The garden, founded on the initiative of President Ronald Reagan and Chancellor Helmut Kohl, was dedicated in 1988 by President Reagan who called it “a symbol of friendship between our two countries.”
