Baird Auditorium, National Museum of Natural History
Details
Help us celebrate the legacy of Dr. King. This year the program will be held in the Baird Auditorium in the National Museum of Natural History on the National Mall. The program includes a keynote address by Dr. Khalil Gibran Muhammad, director of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, New York, and an on-stage discussion on the theme of “Looking Back, Moving Forward” with moderator Richard Reyes-Gavilan, executive director of the D.C. Public Library system. Entertainment will be provided by the Christian-based mime troupe Crazee Praize Nation.
A book-signing follows the event with copies of Dr. Muhammad’s book available for purchase: The Condemnation of Blackness: Race, Crime, and the Making of Modern Urban America.
Dr. Muhammad is the great-grandson of Elijah Muhammad, founder of the Nation of Islam and the son of Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times photographer Ozier Muhammad. Call 202.633.4844 to register.
