Coming to Dance Place, a curated evening of performance by Urban Artistry Inc. Manuscripts Found in Light: A Warrior’s Guide encourages us to live out our dreams, to embrace the uncertainty of life and to rise to our own unique destiny. On Saturday, February 6 at 8pm and Sunday, February 7 at 4pm, this two-hour urban dance theater show will consist of personal statements through the eyes of featured artists from worldwide urban dance communities.
Through movement, spoken word, music and visual narratives these artists will journey through topics exposing the frailty and strength of the human condition: fear, loyalty, purpose, courage and solitude. A full roster of urban dance artists – including Ryan Webb, Rashaad Pearson, K. Love the Infinite, Che Shabazz, Russell Campbell, Diana Wehbi and Rizqi Rachmat – wrestle with these universal themes throughout the evening. Together, they express the capacity of urban dance culture to reveal who we are, what we fear and what we hope for in the future.
About Urban Artistry Inc.
Urban Artistry Inc. is an internationally recognized 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to the performance and preservation of art forms inspired by the urban experience. Serving as cultural ambassadors for communities that are often unsung, the group fulfills their mission through effective collaborations that support artists’ past, present and future.
Junious Brickhouse founded Urban Artistry Inc. in 2005 with a small group of friends in the Washington, DC Metro Area. Their dedication to cultural preservation, authenticity and professionalism fostered a community of artists who shared a global perspective on the creative culture found in urban spaces. Following their desire to connect with art forms other than their own led to the development of internationally recognized education programs such as Funk in Focus, The House That Jack Built, Mainline, and Methods; events like The International Soul Society Festival; and full length theater productions like ORIGINS: One Heartbeat. http://www.urbanartistry.org
