Fiesta Asia Film Screenings Showing at West End Cinema

Fiesta Asia Film Festthe Finale event of the 8th annual National Asian Heritage Festival is happening on May 28 – 30, 2013 at West End Cinema 2301 M Street NW in the District of Columbia. Films from four distinct Asian geographic regions (East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Western Asia) will be screened. Three films are premiering in DC with themes ranging from intense drama; intergenerational comedy to gender and population disparities. Two films are official Academy Award Submissions.  The diverse representation of Asian Film genres all in one Festival is definitely a rare treat for foreign film lovers!

 FEATURED FILMS

  • The FORTRESS/QALA (Azerbaijan) - Qala tells the story of a film crew that arrives in a remote border village in the mountains of Azerbaijan to shoot a historical account of war, heroism, and love when a real war erupts. Azerbaijan’s official entry in the Foreign Language Film category at the 81st Academy Awards.
  • BUNOHAN (Malaysia) – An action filled drama with Muay Thai Kick Boxing, family secrets and vendetta set on the East coast border state of Kelantan.  Malaysia’s official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film nomination for the 85th Academy Awards in 2013. – DC Premier
  • DIN TAO: LEADER OF THE PARADE (Taiwan)A story about a young man reconciling with his father, reviving his father’s drumming troupe, and taking its performance from religious processions to stage. Inspired by Jyou-Tian Folk Drum and Arts Group, the film showcases drumming art form and dance unique to Taiwan.   – DC Premier
  • LESSONS IN FORGETTING (India) – The film touches on very sensitive gender issues like gender violence, gender biased sex selection and male gaze through the intertwined paths of Meera and Jak. The film is based on the bestselling novel by the same title written by Anita Nair. – DC Premier
