Under the auspices of the Embassy of Turkey, the American Turkish Association of Washington, DC (ATA-DC) and Bridge to Turkiye Fund (BTF), the Turkish-American community and friends gathered at the embassy to celebrate Women’s History Month.
The event, entitled “HE & SHE TOGETHER- Education for all: The leap to equality”, served as a fundraiser for BTF’s Ozgecan Aslan Memorial Fund and Calvary Women’s Services.
Keynote speaker and honoree for the evening was Capricia Penavic Marshall who serves as Ambassador-in-Residence and was formally Chief of Protocol for the United States from 2009-2013.
“You really made us think about what it really means to be a woman today, what it means to carry the responsibility each and everyone of us has,” Marshall told the audience in praising both the ATA-DC and BTF for their efforts in advancing the causes of women in Turkey. “So many do not have a voice.”
