With twenty-sex years of showcasing it’s culture with its annual Festival Boliviano, the Bolivian community in the Washington, DC metropolitan area remains as vibrant as ever. It is with pride that brings together hundreds of Bolivians of all ages to share its culture and traditions with the American public.
This year’s festival, held Saturday at the Prince William County Fairgrounds in Manassas (VA), presented non-stop folkloric dance troupes marching around the fairgrounds, merchandise vendors and several food vendors selling authentic Bolivian dishes.
The annual festival is organized by the Pro Bolivia Committee. It brings together youth groups, their parents, families and friends. Over 30 folkloric dance troupes represented various dance forms native to Bolivia. Cuisine included Saltenas which are very popular meat pies. Also offered were Chicharron, Pique Macho, Charque, Silpancho, Fricase as well as others food choices.
“I dance the Morenada. It’s a dance that originates in Bolivia,” stated Janett Garcia, who along with her daughter dances for Morenada Central VA -USA. “I like to dance that dance because it represents my country, and we dance at the Bolivian Festival where a lot of Bolivians come to remember our culture.”
